Are you calling God a liar?
Even in our liberal society it is still a great offense to call anyone a liar, yet many people are calling Almighty God a liar every day and not realizing it!
If you were asked the question, “Do you KNOW that you have eternal life?” what would your answer be? If your reply would be, “I don’t know,” “I hope so” or “No one can know,” then listen to what God has to say to you as he moved the apostle John to write…
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1John 5:9-12)
John starts his logic from the perspective that all mankind accepts proper witnesses and makes judgments accordingly. A person may be sentenced for a crime or set free on the bases of the testimony of witnesses. And then John points out that if God is the witness on a subject then His is the greatest witness and thus should certainly be received and believed.
John explained the witness that God has given regarding His Son, Jesus Christ, and interjects that when someone believes this witness of God regarding God’s Son, that person will have the witness within himself, that is, in his heart.
Next John makes the strong and frightening statement that if a person does not believe the witness of God, HE IS CALLING GOD A LIAR!!
The reason this is so offensive is that Almighty God has witnessed (or said) that He has given us eternal life in His Son. The facts are that God’s Son came to earth and took on Himself human flesh to live the perfect life we could not live. Then He died to pay the full penalty for our sins. On this basis, God has said that He offers salvation or eternal life to us as a gift if we will only believe on or accept His Son as our Savor.
The prophet Isaiah wrote of a time when God the Father would lay the sins of the world on His Son…
“All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
Isaiah also prophesied that after Jesus Christ paid the full penalty for our sins, God the Father witnessed that He was satisfied with this offering for the sins of mankind.
“He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:11)
Now the question is, “Are you satisfied with the sacrifice of the Son of God in your place?” The witness of God is that His Son has already paid for your sins. The witness of God is that He is offering salvation to you as a free gift without any works on your part. God made it known to us through the apostle John that…
“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
John recorded these words of the Lord Jesus Christ…
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” (John 6:47)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24)
The apostle Paul wrote…
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Again, the questions is, “Do you KNOW that you have eternal life?” If not, here is what Almighty God has to say about you…
